I think it’s important that you know the people you do business with. Therefore, I want to take this opportunity to tell you as much about myself as possible. Continue reading to learn more about my work experience, skillsets, personal values, and more.
Retail – As a teenager, I entered the workforce in the retail industry. I remained in that industry for eight years. My job titles ranged from cashier, to photo lab technician to assistant manager. I worked for Eckerd, at a central FL location when they were bought out by CVS. During that time, I became a part of the conversion team, going from store to store in all of my surrounding counties, tearing down the old fixtures, and resetting all the planograms. I took pride in my work and loved building eye-catching displays. This is where I learned how true the old saying, "Eye appeal is buy appeal" really is.
Service Industry – I have roughly five years of bartending experience. I always say I bartended my way through college, but the truth is, it was a “side hustle” while in college AND working a full-time job in retail. I loved the fast-paced environment and always meeting new people, and to be completely honest, I loved the money. It is by far the most fun I’ve ever had at a job. This is where I learned to become a people person. It’s where I learned to rationalize with irrational people and to keep a smile on my face when I was being pulled in a thousand different directions.
Bookkeeping – In 2008, I became a mom and decided it was time to have a more conventional schedule that was more suited to my degree. I spent the next several years as a bookkeeper for numerous small businesses. I am well versed in AR, AP, GL, and Reconciliations. I have set up and/or managed the books for over 25 companies. I have experience in registering numerous businesses and filing & paying their sales taxes in over 30 states.
Payroll – I spent several years as the operations manager of a payroll firm. We processed payroll for over 150 companies with 250,000 employees in over 25 states. My team and I were responsible for processing the payrolls and everything associated with the payroll. This included work comp policy management, claims, and audits; Benefits Administration; PTO tracking; Processing and paying garnishment orders; Filing and paying the associated payroll taxes (FUTA / SUTA / FICA / Fed WH / State WH) in all applicable states; Bank Reconciliations; W-2 Production.
Insurance – Let’s face it, commercial insurance isn’t fun for anyone. But, it’s a necessary evil that we are thankful we have when we need it. I am a licensed insurance agent with several years of experience in handling commercial policies. Now, I use my experience and knowledge by helping companies implement the proper coverages and searching for their best coverage options. I help maintain their policies and complete their annual audits.
New Business Development – I’ve spent the last few years helping entrepreneurs build their businesses from the ground up. I have played a major role in bringing over a dozen companies from an idea to a smooth-running operation. I have helped numerous businesses by getting them properly registered with the government; Setting up their financial software; Making sure they are adequately insured; Designing their web-page; Creating custom forms and contracts; Building their marketing decks; Creating their social media presence.
Software – I have been heavily involved and/or managed multiple full software conversions. I have extensive experience in Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, Quickbooks, and Summit Apex.
Excel – I am a major excel nerd. I have an analytical brain, and I love challenging myself with building intricate, custom programs, and data manipulators. To me, it’s like putting together a super complicated puzzle using complex formulas and a variety of tools. Fun Fact, sometimes I watch excel tutorials for fun, just to see if I can learn a cool new trick.
More About Me
Integrity – I have no interest in following the crowd. I only go in the direction my moral compass takes me, even if it means climbing mountains to get there. (Figuratively speaking of course because I’m far too out of shape to be climbing actual mountains.) I am a firm believer that if you say you are going to do something, you do it and I believe in doing the right thing, even if it makes you unpopular or it means losing money.
Work Ethic – I do not believe in missing deadlines, even if it means staying up all hours of the night to complete a project. As a matter of fact, it’s almost midnight and I’m up designing this website after working a 12-hour day. I like to say I am apart of Team No Chill. I love a good challenge and while some may crumble under pressure, I thrive.
Giving Back - I believe we are all able to and should give back to our communities in some way, shape, or form. Giving back doesn't always mean monetary donations. In fact, I believe it rarely does. There are so many things we can do to make our community a better place. That is why I started the I Can Be The Change Organization. Our mission is to work with members of the community to develop and maintain programs that make a real difference. Visit www.icanbethechange.org for more information.
